The site – www.beautifulphilipinas.com — was sending visitors to a hardcore porn site with a URL that had only one or two two different letters.
After bloggers reportedly found the glitch, the government-backed tourism campaign was pulled only two days after its launch.
The official word on shutting down the site however, did not mention the porn snafu.
Phillipine Ministry spokeswoman Evelyn Macayayong said the website was closed because the content was not edited thoroughly and that there were allegations of plagiarism from other websites.
The Philippines have been struggling to attract tourists once again after a botched hijacking rescue last August left eight Honk Kong residents dead.
