According to reports, the film’s wild popularity started after a trailer was released on the Internet. The tease was subsequently yanked by YouTube for being too explicit.
The movie stars local talent Tonto Dikeh and Maryann Apollo and although described as being softcore, it includes a series of what’s being described as “abnormal sexual behavior” including incest, gay sex and “jaw-dropping sexual stunts.”
“Dirty Secret” was produced and marketed by Nigeria-based Divine Touch Pictures although first reports said the producer was Sanga Entertainment in the U.K.
Retailers are raking in heavy profits from the film due largely to a widespread marketing campaign that includes bust stop posters showing the two co-stars cuddling.
Musa Ismail, a store owner near the Ketu bus stop in Lagos said, “The reason why the movie sells is because people like to watch all these movies that have to do with sex. Some people will even come here and pretend as if they want to go home to watch the movie so that they can criticize it but deep down in their hearts, they like it.”
