NEW YORK — Rick's Cabaret says it has inked a deal with a former NBA superstar to become the first coach of the newly formed Rick's Basketball Association, comprised of teams made up of dancers at 23 of its clubs.
All lips are sealed for now but come Tuesday the Rick's Cabaret basketball team will announce the name of the superstar.
"I can guarantee you that this is a very big name," spokesman Lonnie Hanover told XBIZ. "But, contractually, I cannot reveal the name of the NBA great until Tuesday."
Hanover said that dancers from the gentlemen's club in New York already have been outfitted with "tiny new uniforms" and that they are slated to play girls from Tootsie's Cabaret in Miami.
"This is a 78,000-square-foot club, and they are going to lay down a playing floor inside the Knockers sports bar within the club," he said.
Hanover said that he's heard from some of the New York dancers who have best buddy NBA friends that there will be no NBA season due to the labor dispute, and that's a reason for fans to come out to an RBA game.
"These girls know all of the NBA guys because of the [Rick's Cabaret] club's proximity of Madison Square Gardens," he said. "They all say there won't be an NBA season."
Rick's Cabaret will announce its new coach at its New York club on Tuesday.
