Russian Erotic Museum Opening Attracts Large Crowd

LOS ANGELES — Russia’s erotic heritage is alive and well and on display in Yekaterinburg, with the official reopening of the “Museum About IT” in its new metropolitan facility.

According to its promoters, this is the only museum of love and erotic in the Urals and only the second in Russia, having begun operation in 2010, but now moved to its new location in the center of the city and housed in a modern loft-style space where it has instantly become one of the most popular museums in Yekaterinburg.

The new facility debuted during Yekaterinburg’s international “Night of the Museums 2018” event, where attendees greeted its opening after braving a line said to extend almost a kilometer from the museum’s entrance.

Among the museum’s opening night highlights is a permanent exposition with historical exhibits, including the first Soviet vibrator and underground “handmade” Soviet sex guides. Additionally, the work of one of the most famous artists of the city, Alexei Ryzhkov, revealed “Romantics of the city,” where the master of the city landscape presented Yekaterinburg and Paris in the form of ardent lovers.

The multimedia excursion “Love in a Big City: From Pompeii to Yekaterinburg” was also shown, with workers from the museum telling stories about how and whom they loved in ancient Babylon and Athens, in Tokyo and Berlin, Paris and Yekaterinburg.

Visitors of the museum were also offered a free express HIV test; were showcased the latest technical achievements of the love industry; and able to sample drinks made with aphrodisiacs from the only coffee house for adults in Russia, “Coffee 18+.”

The Museum About IT and the Coffee 18+ coffee house were created by Kazanova 69, one of the oldest and largest retail and wholesale companies of intimate goods in Russia and one of the largest sex toy distributors covering the territory of the former Soviet Union. The Russian company distributes top brands including We-Vibe, Tenga, LoveHoney, Womanizer, Kiiroo, Nexus, Mystim, Orion, Fleshlight, Bathmate, PipeDream, Bijoux Indiscrets, JoyDivision, Male Edge, Liberator, Screaming O, and others, with its head offices located in Moscow and Yekaterinburg.
