Video: Pornhub, BaDoink Partner for VR Channel

BURBANK, Calif. — Pornhub plans to team up with BaDoinkVR to add a new virtual reality content section to its website.

The content will be viewable on Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear VR and the Oculus Rift, according to Pornhub, which disseminated the news via an infomercial that debuted today.

BaDoink is one of the pioneers of VR porn and has offered since last year a website that gives viewers 360-degree videos along with 180-degree films, creating a new immersive adult entertainment experience.

Adult content on Pornhub will be viewable on Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift.

With the launch, Pornhub plans on giving away 10,000 smartphone VR viewers. BaDoinkVR last year also gave away viewers.

“At Pornhub it is our duty to provide our global audience with the latest in cutting-edge technology,” said Corey Price, Pornhub’s vice president, in a statement reported by TechCrunch.

“Virtual reality is the next phase in the constantly metamorphosing world of adult entertainment and will provide users with a mesmeric experience unlike anything they’ve seen before.

“Now, our users are not only able to view our content, but be protagonists in the experience and interact with their favorite porn stars,” he said.

BaDoink CEO Todd Glider told Fortune.com today that Pornhub is "one of the biggest distribution channels in the world” and that the "addition of a VR category, and BaDoinkVR’s award-winning content, will trigger increased consumer uptake and inspire more companies in the space to begin offering virtual reality content."

"It’s a move that lifts all boats,” Glider said.

VR is increasingly scene as a bright spot for adult entertainment content, as well as mainstream projects.

Juniper Research recently revealed that wearable VR headset shipments will approach 30 million units globally by 2020 from a projected 3 million in 2016.

Another research firm, Piper Jaffray, meanwhile, pegged that VR will exceed $1 billion in revenue by 2020.

Adult industry social network XBIZ.net polled executives and stakeholders last year to gauge their positions on VR platform and whether they believe it will impact business.
