Calling All Industry Members – FSC Hosts Protest Against .XXX

We thought that Charlie Sheen and Moammar Gadhafi had the market on outrageous quotes this week… come to find out that using the word “bullshit” and organizing a rally against the proposed .XXX “sponsored” Top Level Domain has set the media buzzing.

We announced the rally yesterday, and so far, there have been articles in Gizmodo, TechRadar, DomainNameWire, the Register, and BusinessInsider. This story, on Neowin.net, correctly points out that even Christian organizations DON’T support .XXX (they feel that .XXX will make it easier for children to find adult material on the Internet), and that several governments including the U.S. have voiced their opposition to potential fragmentation of the Internet.

FSC Executive Director Diane Duke has called “bullshit” on .XXX – you can read her entire series here, explaining the potential negative ramifications if the proposed .XXX sTLD is forced on adult online businesses. The majority of adult business owners do not wish to sponsor the proposed “sponsored” TLD and those that have registered with ICM have done so defensively, to protect their brand. It will cost adult business owners MILLIONS in unnecessary fees, it will make it easier for anti-adult entities to block adult businesses (Australia, Germany and China will almost certainly choose to block .XXX domains), AND .XXX will be administered by ICM Registry and their regulatory IFFOR board (paid for be fees from your businesses). Do you really want the entire adult online industry regulated by one company and its chosen board members?

FSC has been battling .XXX for more than seven years now, and next week we will host a protest at the ICANN Board of Directors meeting. Here are the details:

When: Thursday, March 17, 2011. from 12:30 – 2:00 pm
Where: ICANN Conference, the Westin – St. Francis Hotel, San Francisco, Union Square, 335 Powell Street, San Francisco
What: Press conference and rally outside the Westin- St Francis Hotel
Who: All industry professionals and supporters of the adult entertainment community.

This is your opportunity to protect the future of your online business.

If you can participate in the rally or would like to know how YOU can voice your opposition to .XXX, contact Joanne at Free Speech Coalition, at (818) 348-9373) or by email at joanne@freespeechcoalition.com.
