Ariel Demure Branches Out With Girlsway Featurette 'The Dove Plea'

Oklahoma, 1899. In a makeshift courtroom, sex worker Minnie Stacey is on trial for prostitution. In a speech that will become famous as the “Soiled Dove Plea,” her lawyer implores the jury to have compassion for this “fallen woman” rather than condemn her for her sins.

This historical episode serves as inspiration for the new Girlsway featurette “The Dove Plea,” a supernatural featurette in which two friends (August Skye and Lana Smalls) encounter a mischievous ghost (Penny Barber) who ignites their feelings for each other.

Throughout Adult Time’s history, we’ve consistently prioritized collaborating with performers to amplify their voices and create opportunities for growth in an industry that can often feel like a revolving door.

The project was conceived and written by award-winning performer/creator Ariel Demure and independent queer creator and director Tay Allard, whose creative collective, Golden Age, also sometimes ventures into horror porn.

“We wanted to subvert the concept of the ‘Dove Plea’ with a sex worker who does it for this sheer love of sex, and explore how sexuality can help us all move onto the next chapter of our lives,” says Demure. “We also wanted to keep it lighthearted and angsty — like a ’90s romcom, but super gay! Tay had also been bingeing a lot of Cronenberg films and loved the idea of how sex can move a narrative forward and help tell the story instead of being the inevitable climax.”

The story appealed to Adult Time CCO Bree Mills, sparking some specific ideas about how to bring it to life onscreen.

“When I first read Ariel and Tay’s concept and saw the word ‘Dove’ in the title, I immediately thought of one of the most frequently requested acts on Girlsway: dove fucking,” Mills recalls. “For those who aren’t familiar, this involves a woman using her breasts and nipples to stimulate another woman’s genitalia. It’s an intimate and visually striking act that we knew would resonate with our audience and tie beautifully into the story’s theme.”

Platforming performers and helping them branch out has become standard procedure for Adult Time, from early ventures into model story projects for the studio’s Pure Taboo and Girlsway banners, to features like the biopics of Casey Kisses and Jane Wilde, to Kimmy Kimm’s recent “Finally! … An All-Girl Asian Orgy Extravaganza” and Emma Rose’s introspective showcase, “Discovering Myself.” According to Mills, that same open-door policy led to this latest release.

“Ariel has been a regular performer with us over the past few years, and she’s passionate about expanding her role within the production side of our industry,” Mills says. “She reached out to book a meeting and introduced me to her creative partner, Tay. We had a great conversation about their vision for creating queer-porn-friendly cinema.

Mills notes that Adult Time often pairs its producers with performers for collaborative projects.

“I suggested taking one of their story ideas and reimagining it within the Girlsway universe, which is our flagship studio for cis-lesbian content,” Mills explains. “They wrote the script and provided valuable input in terms of casting and styling. I produced the project with the Pig Machine crew, and Siouxsie Q and Michael Vegas brought it to life on set as directors — with Ariel and Tay on hand to support them and as a mentoring opportunity, seeing a production of this scale put together.”

Mills considers the production team she assembled for “Dove Plea” to be ideal for such collaborative projects.

“Siouxsie, Michael and the Pig Machine team truly understand the journey from being in front of the camera to working behind it, and they’re genuinely committed to uplifting fellow performers,” she notes. “Their crew is fantastic: versatile, supportive and always ready to adjust to help performers bring their visions to life, regardless of their experience level. One of their greatest strengths as a producing team is their willingness to step back and create space for others to grow. It’s a quality I deeply admire.”

When it came to casting, Demure and Allard wanted performers with great sexual chemistry as well as strong acting chops.

“It was important to us that they would have fun playing characters that were a little different than how they were typically cast,” says Demure.

Mills was happy to incorporate the duo’s casting suggestions.

“Penny Barber is a fan favorite and comes with her own impressive wardrobe of Victorian fashion, making her a perfect fit,” Mills says. “August Skye, another performer we’ve collaborated with frequently over the past year, has a passion for spooky themes, so I knew she’d bring great enthusiasm to the role. This also marks my first time casting Lana Smalls, who comes highly recommended and has always been on my radar.”

To avoid too many cooks in the kitchen, Mills says, she focused on supporting the preproduction process with Demure and Allard, while Q and Vegas steered the execution of the production itself.

“Everyone managed well as a unit, especially given the complexities,” Mills says. “I’m proud of the Pig Machine crew for bringing such a level of experience and professionalism to the day. Special shout out to Ariel for all the detailed styling and aesthetic details as well!”

“Dove Plea” is being released as part of Girlsway’s “Supernaturally Stacked” series, as its first new installment in a few years. Mills says the revival is part of Girlsway’s 2025 programming.

“We’re excited to bring back some fun vignette series episodes — both classic favorites and fresh new concepts,” she says. “‘Supernaturally Stacked’ has always been a crowd-pleaser, and with this story blending busty action and supernatural elements, it was the perfect fit. It wasn’t something we planned, but I’ve found that the best ideas often come about unexpectedly!”

Demure says that she and Allard found the experience a highly positive one, and look forward to more in the future.

“We love how Adult Time always maintains a fresh look at the adult industry, and we hope for many more collaborations,” she declares.

Mills is likewise enthusiastic about the collaboration and others like it.

“Throughout Adult Time’s history, we’ve consistently prioritized collaborating with performers to amplify their voices and create opportunities for growth in an industry that can often feel like a revolving door,” she reflects. “I’m proud of the strides we’ve made and the results we’ve achieved — some of our most innovative ideas have come directly from these collaborations.”
