Jessica Alba Ad Boosts Bondage Tape Sales for Stockroom

LOS ANGELES — When a famous mainstream actress appears in an ad wrapped in bondage tape, heads turn and naturally, store registers ring.

Such was the case for Stockroom recently after Jessica Alba appeared in a voting-related public service announcement that TMZ blasted to the masses — even crediting Stockroom as the place where the item came from.

“The PSA appeared in a lot of popular magazines, including People, so we’ve had a couple of people walk in with the ad itself because they know we are a fetish specialist but they don’t know what the item is actually called,” Stockroom’s brand manager Ann-Marie Holman told XBIZ. “All they know is that they want it and we probably carry it.”

Stockroom indeed carries a large variety of bondage tape, in part because the fetish item is “so in-demand at all times that we don’t want to take the chance on a single vendor being out stock,” Holman said.

Due to the overwhelming demand generated from the PSA and the subsequent TMZ mention, sales have “definitely gone up,” Holman said.

“Of course, people inspired by the ad are mostly buying the tape in black, since that’s what Jessica is wearing,” Holman said, “ but a few people wound up going for the red and the pink instead.”

It was the PSA makers that originally approached Stockroom and “pulled a whole slew of bondage items,” including black rope and the patented leather Bolero Straitjacket, according to Holman.

“The idea was that bondage restraints and BDSM accessories were a great visual illustration of people giving up their personal freedom when they fail to vote,” Holman told XBIZ.
