Australian Sex Party Amasses 1,000 Members

DEAKIN WEST, Australia — The Australian Sex Party, a new political party officially launched last week by Australian adult trade group the Eros Association, reports that membership has reached more than 1,000.

"We have now had over 1,000 people signed up to the party and have just hit the 20,000 unique visitor mark on the site," Eros Association CEO Fiona Patten told XBIZ. "In fact before we had even launched, the Australian Christian Lobby had put out a media release condemning us. That is a good sign — they must be worried."

General elections in Australia are held at least once every three years, and Australia last had a national election on Nov. 24, 2007.

"We now need to maintain the momentum for 18 months," Patten said.
