New Payment Company Noca Seeks to Compete With PayPal

SAN FRANCISCO — A new payment processor wants to compete with PayPal the best way it knows how: with lower fees.

Online payment company Noca.com offers a similar battery of services as its more established competitor, but according to online sources, they're prepared to facilitate transactions for a lot less money.

Online merchants typically have to pay a 2-3 percent fee along with a flat 30-cent fee for transactions through PayPal. Noca is promising to eliminate the 30-cent fee and only charge 0.25 percent.

PayPal has long been a popular payment solution for consumers and adult industry professionals alike, with many adult sites choosing to include PayPal among its payment options. Noca is still in a beta-testing phase, so they haven't disclosed whether they're adult-friendly or not, but their terms of service make no mention of pornography or adult content.

In addition, Noca circumvents credit card transactions, instead relying on debit payments. Users will confirm payments through text messages on their cell phones. Noca assures everyone that this process is secure.

Tech pundit Leena Rao suggested that the time might be right for Noca to steal some business from PayPal.

"With credit tight, consumers might feel more comfortable paying for items directly from a checking account," she wrote for TechCrunch.com. "And it assures security for both merchants and consumers."
