'Pirates II' Dominates 2008 Empire Awards

WARRENDALE, Pa. — Digital Playground's "Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge" dominated the 2008 Empire Awards, winning in eight of this year's 21 categories, including Best Overall DVD, Best Blu-ray, the Editor’s Choice Award and the Viewer’s Choice Award.

The Empire Awards are voted on by the Adult DVD Empire editorial staff, other online adult reviewers, and select members of the adult industry. The Viewer’s Choice Award is determined solely by fan voting.

“For a movie to win in all those major categories shows what an outstanding release "Pirates II' was,” Adult DVD Empire Editorial Director Shannon Nutt said. “It was not only popular with a majority of Empire Award voters, but with the overall fan base as well.”

"Fallen," directed by Brad Armstrong for Wicked Pictures, captured a win in the Best Feature DVD category and Wicked Pictures also picked up an award for Best Compilation DVD Studio. Elegant Angel was named this year’s Best Overall Studio, and its DVD release "Alexis Texas is Buttwoman" won in the Best All-Sex DVD category.

VCX's restoration of director Bob Chinn's 1973 John Holmes vehicle "Johnny Wadd" was named Best Classic DVD, and Australian girl/girl producer AbbyWinters.com won Best Amateur DVD with "The Girl Sessions."

Digital Playground also won Best DVD Video Quality for "Cheerleaders" and Best Selling DVD (Dec. 1, 2007 – Dec. 1, 2008) for "Babysitters," making a total of 10 wins in this year's Empire awards.
