FSC Membership Meeting Will Go On, Despite Fires

CHATSWORTH, Calif. – Despite wildfires currently raging throughout Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, the Free Speech Coalition’s general membership meeting will not be cancelled, according Tom Hymes, FSC communications director.

The quarterly meeting will be held at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills in relative proximity to where sweeping brush fires have claimed 17,000 acres, coming dangerously close to areas in the San Fernando Valley, Chatsworth and Simi Valley where many adult companies are located.

However, according to Hymes, the meeting will still be held at its scheduled time of 5:30 p.m. and no change in attendance is expected.

Tonight’s meeting also marks the first gathering since the organization’s membership roster increased from a few hundred to several thousand as a result of a lawsuit filed against the Justice Department to permanently suspend enforcement of amended 2257 record-keeping regulations.

The membership meeting will kick off with cocktails and free hors d’oeurves, followed by a talk by Michael Fattorosi on workers' compensation issues surrounding adult performers, and then an update by industry attorney Jeffrey Douglas on the 2257 lawsuit against Justice.

It is being suggested that meeting attendees choose their travel routes carefully. On Wednesday, parts of the 101 and 118 freeways were partially shut down because of the fire.

In certain parts of Bell Canyon, Woolsey Canyon and Lake Manor localized evacuations have been ordered, and more than 3,000 firefighters have been called into action to help contain the fire.

Shelters have been established at Canoga Park High School, Pierce College in Woodland Hills and other locations, the Los Angeles County Fire Department announced.
