National Science Foundation Slammed for Not Punishing Porn Activity

WASHINGTON — Two senators criticized the National Science Foundation for not adequately responding to a scandal where the foundation's staff members were sharing adult content with each other.

The staff members were sharing their online sexual exploits with each other. One staffer bragged over foundation email about time spent on an Asian-themed adult paysite.

“I am trying to learn how to use [cam-to-cam] capability on your AsianBabes.com site,” he said. “I do not seem to be able to do that.”

AsianBabes.com currently redirects to BestOfAsianSex.com, which operates under the banner of the WEGCash.com affiliate network.

The criticism came down from Iowa Republican Charles E. Grassley and Maryland Democrat Barbara A. Mikulski. The employee behind the AsianBabes.com email has since been fired, but the senators pointed out that the N.S.F. had failed to take action in six other cases where pornography or sexual harassment were involved.

According to the senators, the foundation hadn't made any changes in personnel or told its inspector general about the incidents, but the N.S.F. responded that in some cases, it hasn't been able to gather enough evidence to take disciplinary action.

But the senators aren't impressed.

“Clearly, N.S.F.’s current polices and their implementation are apparently insufficient to deter, among other things, inappropriate Web access for the purpose of viewing sexually explicit material,” they said.
