India Bans Adult Cartoon Site SavitaBhabhi.com

INDIA — India’s government has banned adult cartoon site SavitaBhabhi.com.

On June 3, the Department of Telecommunications of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology issued a statement asking all ISPs to block the site.

Under the IT Act, which allows the government of India unrestricted monitoring of all electronic communication, the Controller of Certifying Authorities — an agency responsible for blocking illicit websites — deemed SavitaBhabhi.com unacceptable.

“There were several complaints against the site. We have taken action under the relevant sections of the IT Act and blocked the site,” said N. Vijayaditya, a representative of CCA.

SavitaBhabhi.com was established in March 2008 by creators only known by their screen names. Based in the E.U., the site’s owners were not notified of the site’s take-down, according to reports.

“We are talking to our lawyers and trying to figure out our options,” SavitaBhabhi.com’s administrator Deshmukh said. “The initial reaction is since the site does not pose any threat to India’s national security and is not illegal, it must be against some international treaty to block it. However, we are still working on the legal angle.”

The site revolves around Savita Bhabhi, a bored housewife whose seductions of neighborhood men are displayed via erotic illustrations.

The popular site garnered about 60 million unique visitors each month with 70 percent of the traffic coming from India.

According to Alexa.com, SavitaBhabhi.com is the 82nd most-visited Indian website.
