CalExotics to Debut ‘Sexperts’ Social Network Program

CHINO, Calif. — California Exotic Novelties has launched the Sexperts social-networking program, an effort to use online networks to spread news, reviews and information virally around the world.

CalExotics Director of Marketing Al Bloom told XBIZ that he and his team have been discussing the power of social networking, and after seeing frequent online discussion of the company’s products among bloggers and writers, the company wanted to find a way to participate.

“We wanted to put some of our innovative products in the hands of our customers, the people who write about sexual health topics, love, relationships — and give them the real tools to foster more discussion about empowering people enough to start talking about their sexuality,” Bloom said.

As a result, CalExotics will recruit 100 men and women active in the blogging and social network scene and invite them to apply. Once reviewed and accepted into the program, each “Sexpert” will receive a new CalExotics product based on the information provided in the application.

The company will post the best of the resulting reviews, write-ups and blogs on Blog.CalExotics.com.

“The prospective candidates should have experience in writing or creating an online blog or journal first, but we are also looking for those that share the passion and drive to educate their website visitors,” Bloom said. “This is about an open conversation — we are asking that the Sexperts post as much as they want on their own sites and for us to relay those Sexperts back to our followers too.”

Candidates looking to apply are encouraged to visit CalExotics.com and click on the “Sexperts” logo. Bloom said that once chosen as a Sexpert — each will be notified after about two weeks following submission — the blogger will be allowed to display the official “CalExotics Sexpert” logo on his or her website, identifying them as being part of a very select group of opinion leaders. The program will officially begin in August.

“With the rapid growth of online social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and many others, we realized that millions of people worldwide were constantly sharing opinions and information on a daily basis,” CalExotics founder and President Susan Colvin said. “We wanted to take advantage of this and create a program to facilitate dialogue to help people share information about our products.”

Bloom also said CalExotics launched Twitter and MySpace accounts today, and the support and number of followers is growing fast.

“We're glad to make it to the online community,” Bloom said.
