Digital Playground’s Joone Featured on KDKA

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Joone, Digital Playground’s founder and the director of the recently released film “Pirates,” was featured on KDKA Radio Tuesday morning. The interview was prompted by the 30,000 downloads of KDKA’s television report capturing three sold-out shows of “Pirates” to students at Carnegie Mellon University.

KDKA is a division of Clear Channel that broadcasts from Pittsburgh and serves listeners in 36 states.

KDKA’s Marty Griffen, an investigative reporter and talk show host, spoke with Joone for more than 30 minutes as calls were fielded from students, consumers and parents about the controversial showings, which were funded by student activity fees.

“I was shocked by the interest,” Griffen said. “People are split, it’s men versus women and it’s especially the older women who are upset by this type of film. ‘Pirates’ is the best shot movie in that genre that I’ve ever seen. It’s definitely different. [Joone] is very intelligent. He handled all the calls, even from the conservatives and he did a great job.”

“Newsweek” previously called the film a “sprawling epic” in its Nov. 28 issue and “LA Weekly” named the film its “Video Pick of the Week” in its Dec. 2 issue.

“Pirates” received 24 nominations for AVN’s 2006 award show, more nods than any other single title reportedly has received throughout the history of adult entertainment.

“I’d like to thank all the fans for their overwhelming support,” Joone said. “I wanted ‘Pirates’ to make a statement.”

Digital Playground President Samantha Lewis said she also is thrilled with how well “Pirates” has been received.

“‘Pirates’ is an unbelievable production,” Lewis said. “It is changing the way people see adult entertainment and that was Joone’s goal. I’m very proud of this production.”

The film is co-produced with Adam & Eve Productions and stars Jesse Jane, Carmen Luvana, Janine, Teagan Presley, Devon, Austyn Moore and Jenaveve Jolie. The film’s production was shot and mastered on high-definition and combines more than 300 special effects shots, according to company officials.
