ASACP Details Best Practices for Mobile Sites, Apps

LOS ANGELES — The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) has updated its Best Practices for Mobile Adult Sites and Mobile Applications.

Founded in 1996, ASACP is a non-profit organization dedicated to online child protection. ASACP battles child pornography through its CP Reporting Hotline and helps parents prevent children from viewing age-restricted material online with its Restricted To Adults (RTA) website label, which is now recognized by the iPad's operating system.

According to the association, ASACP's Best Practices were developed to help businesses maximize their ability to stop online child pornography and to help parents protect their children from unknowingly viewing age-restricted content on the Internet.

"According to a recent report from the Kaiser Family Foundation, two-thirds of all kids ages eight to 18 have their own cell phone. Therefore, a lot more scrutiny is being placed on how children can access mobile adult content," stated ASACP CEO Joan Irvine. "This is why we have updated our Best Practices for Mobile Adult Sites and Mobile Applications."

"Granted there are no perfect solutions, but ASACP's Best Practices are the best tools available to protect children and your company," Irvine added. "We encourage everyone, whether they are an ASACP member or not, to review them regularly."

The ASACP Best Practices for mobile adult websites and applications are:

  1. Make a good faith effort to comply with the current laws and standard of recordkeeping of your government.
  2. Include a statement that "All models were 18 or over at the time of the creation of such depictions," in a prominent position on the following pages: warning, home, splash, join and any other access page.
  3. If the models look young, include the above age disclaimer on all mobile version pages.
  4. Include, on your mobile website's home/index page, a notice that the contents of the site are for adults only. Also include all disclaimers, age verification, etc., and if your site has a warning page exclude explicit images on this page to prevent children from unknowingly viewing adult material.
  5. Label your website as "adult" using an established labeling system such as ASACP's RTA "Restricted To Adults" website label or other meta data recognizable by filtering software, browsers, etc.
  6. Label all pages that sell mobile adult applications using an established labeling system such as ASACP's RTA "Restricted To Adults" website label or other meta data recognizable by filtering software, browsers, etc.
  7. Label all e-marketing material as "Sexually Explicit."

ASACP has spent more than 14 years creating progressive programs to protect children and its assistance in the adult entertainment industry's child protection efforts is unparalleled. Companies and individuals interested in supporting ASACP may go to www.asacp.org for more information on how to get involved.
