AdultShop.com Businesses Are for Sale

MELBOURNE — Australian online sex emporium AdultShop.com has advertised its core businesses for sale.

AdultShop is a leading importer, wholesaler and retailer of adult products in Australia.

The company says highlights of the businesses for sale include an annual turnover in excess of A$30 million, 18 retail stores across the country, an online business, an import and wholesale business with a management team, a leading Australian brand since 1999 and opportunities for growth.

In 2009, AdultShop.com’s board of directors rejected a $5.7 million (U.S.) takeover bid by adult department store Sexyland.

The board said that the takeover offer was “at a substantial discount” and that each board member disapproved of the deal to sell AdultShop.com shares for 93 cents (U.S.) a share and 0.66 cents for each option.

AdultShop.com is owned by Malcolm Day, whose empire at one time was worth about $110 million.

In 2000, just a year after it was listed as a public company in Australia, AdultShop.com was worth $660 million. As of October 2009, its market value was listed at $2.6 million.
