NEW YORK — A new stage play titled "The Deep Throat Sex Scandal" by David Bertolino started performances Friday night at the 45 Bleecker Street Theatre in New York.
The play, directed by Jerry Douglas, “takes you behind the scenes into the secret world of adult filmmaking and introduces you to the legendary Linda Lovelace and Harry Reems,” the play's program notes read.
“Follow the bizarre journey from the creation of the movie, through the raids, arrests and the banning of the film, to the political fallout of the ensuing courtroom drama,” the notes read. "Who gets to decide what's obscene in America? In 1976, it was 12 jurors in a Tennessee courtroom."
Lori Gardner and Malcolm Madera are in lead roles, with Graham Stuart Allen, Frank Blocker, Stephen Hope, John-Charles Kelly, Rita Rehn and Zach Wegner in featured roles.
"The Deep Throat Sex Scandal" play runs 105 minutes and has performances on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8 p.m. Ticket prices range from $110-$25.
