“We started out by providing content for other companies, which sold very well,” Cuban said. “That’s how we raised the capital to launch UrgeXotica. The financial investment we’ve made puts us in a great position for the future. We’re launching as a studio, and our initial focus will be on the DVD market, but our long-term strategy is to become a multi-platform company.”
UrgeXotica will launch six lines during the first two months of 2006, all with a distinctly Latin flavor.
“Girls of Latin America,” for example, is a sort of travelogue, introducing viewers to the most beautiful cities in Central and South America. Cuban acts as the host of the reality-based series, following local male talent as they attempt to seduce young women they “meet” in bars and on the streets. Vol. 1 was shot in Bogota, Colombia, a city that is rarely shot for adult movies.
“Our production infrastructure in these countries provides us with the opportunity to film these girls,” Baron said. “They dress, speak and act like what they are — regular, everyday cuties. I challenge any production company to find these girls again.”
UrgeXotica’s second series, “Ass Republic,” which Baron described as “hardcore with a splash of sensuality,” launches Jan. 30.
“Here, we want to position ourselves in the ‘it doesn’t need to be nasty to be hot’ realm,” he explained.
“It’s more about ass fetish worship than it is about anal,” Cuban added.
Next will come “Pink Like Me,” a girl/girl line featuring Silky Thumper, on Feb. 6; “I Play Solo,” a female masturbation line, also on Feb. 6; “B-Day 18,” which focuses on girls celebrating their 18th birthdays, on Feb. 13; and “Tribalistic,” an outdoor sex line, which debuts Feb. 20.
The goal, Baron told XBiz, is to establish a foothold in the gonzo arena, then branch out into feature films and, eventually, “take advantage of all vehicles that produce revenue. This means our movies will be bought and rented in stores, downloaded through VOD companies like HotMovies and East Media Group, downloaded to iPods directly through our studio website and to BREW technology-enabled cellphones and palmtops when the age-verification issue is resolved.”
Baron added that the company also will make its post-production services available to other companies in the adult arena.
