'Porn,' 'XXX' Make Top 10 BitTorrent Search Terms

CYBERSPACE — It may come as no surprise to the adult industry plagued by free content, but the search terms “porn” and “XXX” made the "Top 10" for most BitTorrent searches in 2010 on a new list compiled by TorrentFreak.

The TorrentFreaks' "BitTorrrent Zetitgeist 2010 Top 100" list of most searched-for phrases and keywords was compiled from data supplied by BitTorrent index site KickAssTorrents.

TorrentFreak said that it took its lead from Google and Bing that track the most searched phrases and keywords and decided to present its own list.

"Following this Zeitgeist trend we thought it might be a good idea to make a similar list for searches on BitTorrent indexes. Since BitTorrent searches are scattered across hundreds of sites it is impossible to get a full picture of what people search for on BitTorrent, but luckily one of the largest indexers agreed to cooperate," TorrentFreak stated on its site.

It added, "With a few hundred million searches a year this data should give a clear indication of what people were looking for on BitTorrent in the last 12 months."

Although it’s not clear how many actual searches are indexed, the site’s blog posted that it indexes a few hundred million a year.

The term “XXX” came in at No. 4 while “porn” took the No. 9 spot.

Adult terms shared the top 10 mostly with mainstream movie terms.
