NBC ordered the drama pilot called "Playboy" written by Chad Hodge and produced by 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TV. Hodge is executive producing the series with Imagine's Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo.
The drama pilot for the 2011–2012 season centers around Playboy bunnies in the 1960s amid political and moral changes of the decade.
"Playboy" could help breathe new popularity in the real-life Playboy Enterprises as it has big plans to revive the Playboy Club franchise worldwide.
Last month, Playboy, which at one time had 22 clubs and 1 million members, opened the new Playboy Club Macao. The Playboy Club name first came back in 2006, when a location was opened at the Palms hotel in Las Vegas.
Playboy hopes to open about 20 clubs in the next few years, including locations already in the works in Cancun, Mexico and London.
