New Book Sheds Light on Who Uses Internet Porn

NEW YORK — A book about people’s Internet sex habits has debuted, shedding new light on porn websites and their audiences.

In “A Billion Wicked Thoughts, What the World’s Largest Experiment Reveals About Human Desire,” two neuroscience researchers, Ogi Ogas and Sai Gaddam examine people's porn preferences through data from search engines like Dogpile,AOL and porn sites like Fantasti.cc and PornHub.

The scientists also investigated how men and women differ when it comes to sex, love and romance, similar to the groundbreaking Kinsey Reports of the '50s.

A description of the book said the data was compiled from numerous web searches, individual search histories, erotic stories and videos, websites, online personal ads and many other "enormous sources of sexual data" in order to understand the true differences between male and female desires.

Ogas told XBIZ that some of the initial hypotheses were formed while his colleague and co-author Gaddam attended the 2010 XBIZ conference where he interviewed Angie and Colin Rowntree (owners of Sssh.com and Wasteland.com) who provided the duo with data from their websites that proved central to the book.

XBIZ senior editor Stephen Yagielowicz who was also quoted in the book said, “In ‘A Billion Wicked Thoughts,’ Ogi Ogas and Sai Gaddam have provided scientists, psychologists, marketers and more, with the most in-depth research ever to uncover the secrets of human sexuality — as evidenced by consumer’s Internet porn consumption.”

He added, “Ogas and Gaddam have produced an informative and entertaining work that will prove enlightening for a broad audience of professionals and policymakers — and which is ‘must reading’ for serious adult industry operators.”

And although the book delves into the differences between men’s and women’s sexual psyche, a Gizmodo report on the book pointed out the “fascinating facts about Internet sex ” that may have some in the adult industry rethinking their strategies.

The authors found that both men and view Internet porn, but men will pay for it. The authors said that popular sites like Brazzers, Bang Bros, and Reality Kings, typically attract an audience that is around 75 percent men.

“But when it comes to actually paying for porn, the gender gap widens into an abyss. According to CCBill, the billing service most commonly used by the online adult industry, only 2 percent of all subscriptions to pornography sites are made on credit cards with women's names. In fact, CCBill even flags female names as potential fraud, since so many of these charges result in an angry wife or mother demanding a refund for the misuse of her card.”

What’s a bit more surprising is that MILF sites are as popular as teen sites. Ogas and Goddam found that although teens still lead, more men search for 50-year-olds than 19-year-olds and some even search for granny porn — especially in Britain, probably becasue of "schoolboy schoolmarm fantasies." They said, "out of the 42,337 sites on the Alexa Adult List [a list of the most popular porn sites], 313 are granny sites."

The researchers speculate that the interest in MILF porn may have to do with older performers' perceived aggression and self-confidence, as well as their "large, round butts."

And society’s obsession with thin women flies out the window when it comes to porn sites, according to the book. Although it was noted that most porn stars are thinner than the average woman, more men search for fat women.

For every Dogpile search for a “skinny” girl there are almost three searches for a “fat” girl.  And on Alexa, the researchers said there are more than 504 fat girl porn sites such as Fat Tube and Sugar Fat Girls, while it lists only 182 skinny girl sites such as Skinny Teens Naked.

More findings revealed that there are 1,072 big dick sites that feature heterosexual sex, like Monsters of Cock and Mr. Biggz and only three devoted to small penises.

But the Gizmodo article took some “bi-curios” liberty reporting that because the researchers cited a eye-tracking study that said men’s gazes focus on men’s crotches, while women don’t, that even straight men like to look at men’s cocks on the Internet.

And not surprisng to adult pros, tranny sex is very popular and the bulk of the fans are straight men. According to Ogas and Gaddam, "T-girls,” transsexuals with a woman’s body and man’s cock, are the fourth most popular category of adult website in Alexa’s ratings that are listed by names of sites.

And "shemales” ranks number 16 as the most popular sexual search on Dogpile, more popular than “butts,” “threesomes” and “interracial sex.”

Housekeeper, a tranny site operator told the authors that his audience and most of the shemale site visitors are “straight dudes.”
