MOSCOW — In a move to counter the recently approved .XXX sTLD, the Russian Internet may adopt a special porn-free domain that’s child-friendly.
The Moscow Times reported that the country is considering a special Cyrillic “children” sTLD especially for content that is “interesting and useful for children.”
According to Andrei Kolesnikov of the Coordination Center for the National Internet Domain, sites seeking such an address would have to be cleared by moderators.
"Everyone will know a site [in the 'children'] domain is monitored by experts and is safe and convenient for children," Kolesnikov said.
Kolesnikov did not give details on when the domain would launch or how it would be supervised.
