CHINO, Calif. — California Exotic Novelties director of marketing Al Bloom is being honored with the degree of Honoris Causa Doctor of Arts from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality.
A veteran in the adult and novelty industries since 1970, the degree is in recognition of Bloom’s contributions in the field of erotolgy and sexology.
"I'm overwhelmed by this honor," Bloom said. “I never expected anything like this and am grateful to the IASHS for such a prestigious acclamation."
From 1993 to 1998, Bloom was the director of marketing at Doc Johnson Enterprises and from 1998 to 2003 he was a partner in M&M Sales.
"Al has been a member of the CalExotics team since 2003, but beyond that he has been a friend and associate of mine for many, many years,” said Susan Colvin, president and CEO of California Exotic Novelties.
“Al is a master of his field, absolutely knowledgeable in all areas of sexuality, and a true pioneer in the adult arena. I can't think of someone more deserving of this honor.”
Bloom also served on the board of directors for the Adult Film Association, the Adult Video Association and was instrumental in creating the Free Speech Coalition in 1992.
"Al is an icon,” said Jackie White, vice president of sales for California Exotic Novelties. “Everyone in the industry knows Al Bloom. I congratulate him on his honorary doctorate degree and all he has accomplished during his illustrious career.”
Bloom graduated from Kent State with a BBA in marketing and held various general manager positions at several adult distribution companies. He also served as president and vice president for multiple adult film production studios.
The Honoris Causa Doctor of Arts degree gives Bloom and adjunct faculty appointment, meaning he has the ability to instruct erotology at the IASHS or other institutes of higher learning. Bloom was nominated to receive the degree by a board of his peers.
