Porn Guardian Wins 'Best Presentation' at XBIZ Summit

CHICAGO — XBIZ Summit attendees selected Porn Guardian as having the best company presentation during the "3 Minute Show-Offs" session.

As its prize, Porn Guardian won $2,500 worth of advertising from XBIZ.

Ten companies were invited to participate in the session, in which they each had to give a three-minute elevator pitch about their company.

The company's presentation, given by co-owner Dominic Ford, started with "2 Myths About Piracy." He talked about the first myth, saying that many people believe that piracy is so overwhelming that there's nothing that can be done about it.

The second myth is the believe that an owner's site has hundreds of pirates.

Ford went on to explain that most sites only have two to three "initial pirates" (and even the biggest sites generally have under 10).

Initial Pirates, according to Ford, are those who use member accounts to download files initially from a site.

"Unfortunately, these pirates do a lot of damage, as they upload files to multiple places online," the company said.

"Those files then get propagated by 'relay pirates' (those who didn't initially download the material and just re-post already pirated material). This results in hundreds of versions of the same files available for download in many places."

Ford said that all these copies of the scene can be traced back to very few initial pirates hit home.

Porn Guardian offers a DCMA Notification service and a content delivery system that marks downloaded files allowing the company to identify the initial pirate when files are later found online.
