Katrina Aid Group Grateful for Adult Industry Help

SAN FRANCISCO — The adult industry has a strong track record of charity in the wake of disasters, the latest example being the Pink+Aid DVD from “sexual superheroes” Tassy Pink and Halcyon — an effort that is helping nonprofit groups Burners Without Borders and Disaster Corps continue relief efforts long after most Americans have forgotten about Hurricane Katrina.

“Tassy and Halcyon have graciously agreed to donate the proceeds from their DVD to Disaster Corps to help support our relief efforts in Mississippi,” Andie Grace of Disaster Corp told XBiz. “Donations like the one from Tassy and Halcyon make fuel, food for crews and other aspects of our continued operations possible.”

Halcyon describes the Pink+Aid DVD as a documentary of an “erotic experiment,” the live Pink+Aid Digital Orgy/Benefit that took place on Oct. 2, 2005, and was originally broadcast through the couple’s website.

“The motivation is: one, to do good, and two, to show that the adult industry can be a force of good,” Halcyon told XBiz. “In an industry that struggles to defend its redeeming values, there is finally an example of truly positive porn. Just because the hurricane has slipped off the front page doesn't mean there isn't still tons of help needed in New Orleans.”

Halcyon said he and Tassy initially tried donating the money to Habitat for Humanity, but like so many nonprofits that can’t see beyond the stereotypes and negative perceptions of adult entertainment, the group refused the donation.

For Grace, the source of the money is unimportant. All that matters, he says, is the good it will do.

Since early September, Burners Without Borders, made up mainly of volunteers from the Burning Man community, have been working with Disaster Corps to hand out food and water, build shelters, remove debris and do everything else they can to help out the people of the Gulf Coast affected by Hurricane Katrina.

“The heavy equipment we're using was donated by Doosan Daiwoo, and it has made it possible to offer assistance in many ways, from helping to clear and rebuild a Vietnamese Buddhist Temple in Biloxi to clearing dozens of ruined houses and yards full of debris in Pearlington.”

Pink+Aid features Tassy Pink, Vanilla Deville, Elli of ElliNude.com, Ashley Fires of HotAshleyFires.com and Lexi Bardot of Yanks.com.
