These days he's trying to work his celebrity status to incite public outrage over an adult business being constructed near his Nyack home.
“I started photographing the [construction] workers and their license plates,” Baldwin told Christian World News.
Baldwin launched the shame campaign when city leaders approved the Queens-based Alagama Group to convert a car dealership into the Nyack Video Store, which will sell books, adult videos and sex toys and novelties.
The store, which plans to operate 24/7, also is building peep show booths.
Baldwin now says he's vowing to continue his photo campaign once the store opens.
“I’m going to take their picture. I’m going to take their license plate number, and I am going to find out who they are,” said Baldwin, who recently converted to Christianity. "I’m going to put it in the newspaper because I think the town should know who goes to this place."
Meanwhile, Nyack Mayor John Shields sees no legal standing to shut the store down.
“The courts have ruled you cannot out of hand forbid this establishment because you don’t like the content,” Shields said.
City officials say the store complies with local zoning laws that ban adult businesses within 250 feet of from a school, church or residence.
But Baldwin doesn’t care.
“We’re going to shut the guy down,” he said. “There’s no question about it. [Because] I won’t stop until it gets shut down.”
