HONG KONG — Stephen Shiu, producer of 2011’s record-breaking Hong Kong erotic blockbuster “3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy,” is currently at work on its sequel: “4D Sex and Zen: Slayer of a Thousand from the Mysterious East.”
Slated to shoot in Hong Kong and Japan later this year, “4D Sex and Zen” will utilize the motion seating systems found in select Hong Kong theaters to create the most interactive movie going experience possible — something of utmost importance to Stephen Shiu’s producing partner and son, Stephen Shiu Jr.
“They [moviegoers] felt that the racy scenes in the first film were not intense enough,” Shiu Jr. told the Hong Kong press. “This time we will be paying more attention to that, and will be enlisting the aid of experts from Japan to direct these scenes.”
“3D Sex and Zen” opened in Hong Kong in April 2011 to a record-breaking first day tally of HK$2.79 million ($360,000), trumping previous champ “Avatar,” which took in HK$2.5 million ($322,000) on its opening day back in 09.
The campy sex flick is loosely based on Li Yu’s erotic comedy “The Carnal Prayer” and is now available on DVD and Blu-ray disc from Panorama.
