Private Teams With Erotic Media for German Market

BARCELONA, Spain — Private Media Group and Erotic Media announced two deals — one for pay-TV content, the other for video-on-demand — in a bid to dominate the adult market in German-speaking Europe.

According to the pay-TV licensing agreement, Swiss-based-Erotic Media, which offers gay and straight content in Germany, will pay approximately $7.7 million for the rights to Private’s content library.

“We have chosen Private as our long-term partner because of its well established brand in German-speaking Europe and its consistent track record of delivering top quality content to consumers,” Bernhard Mueller, a board delegate for Erotic Media, said. “This, along with Private's unparalleled ability to support our aggressive timeline and demand for quality and reliability, sets Private apart from other suppliers.”

In the second deal, Private found an agent for its VOD content throughout the German-speaking regions of Europe, which include Germany, Austria and parts of Switzerland, among others.

“These two highly profitable agreements are important steps in the company's VOD and broadcasting activities,” Private CEO Berth Milton said. “With the impending IPTV/cable VOD explosion expected in Germany, we have selected to work with Erotic Media to benefit from their solid experience and true understanding of the German-speaking broadcasting market in Europe.”

Establishing a power-base in the German-speaking market is an important step for Private, which recently launched a new branding campaign by signing contract girl Priva. While Germany represents the largest telecom market in Europe, Austria, though considerably smaller, leads the continent in technology. According to Private, the Austrian position will enable the company to take advantage of emerging mobile and broadband developments.

Still, a presence in Germany has its technological boons as well, according to Private, which sees Deutche Telekom’s decision to launch IPTV this summer as a real chance to capitalize on what it sees a boom in digital broadcasting.
