McKai says he has a masters degree from California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) and has taught filmmaking in the past. As guest lecturer for the Department of Film Studies at UCSB, McKai will talk about the influences on his filmmaking. “I loved the films of the ‘70s and ‘80s, especially the work of Alex de Renzy and Gregory Dark," he said.
McKai and the alt-adult movement he is a part of have been profiled in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and The Village Voice.
A highlight of McKai’s lecture will be his recent move to Vivid Entertainment and his search for alternative, progressive talent and cutting-edge productions with Vivid-Alt. Students will screen clips that McKai chose himself as examples for his lecture.
“It wasn’t that long ago that I was working on my own Masters Degree at CalArts, so it’s a great thrill to be going back to school to talk about porn with film students,” McKai said.
McKai will be joined by alt-porn director/star Joanna Angel who will be talking about her move from the web to DVDs. Angel is the guiding light behind BurningAngel.com, a website which unites indie music and pornography.
