Cecil Howard Teams With HotMovies.com for Release of Command Classics

PHILADELPHIA — Acclaimed Golden Age Director Cecil Howard has entered into an exclusive Internet distribution deal with HotMovies.com for two titles produced for his Command Cinema Classics label. The rare films, “Babylon Pink” produced in 1979 and “Neon Lights” in 1981, add to a growing library of classic erotica available on HotMovies.com.

The two adult cinema classics can be downloaded or streamed to the user’s PC. The films were finally re-released earlier this year on DVD after languishing on VHS for more than 15 years.

Both movies were originally slated to be distributed on DVD exclusively by mainstream company Media Blasters, but VCX President David Sutton told XBIZ that both Media Blasters and Howard felt his company could do a better job of getting the DVDs into adult retail locations and, ultimately, the hands of fans. Now, both titles are distributed by VCX.

Many classic pornstars are featured in Howard’s films including Vanessa Del Rio, Veronica Hart, Lisa De Leeuw and Samantha Fox. “Neon Lights” was just inducted to the X-Rated Critics Organization’s (XRCO) Hall of Fame.

“Babylon Pink” was written by longtime adult director Henri Pachard, and is said to have ushered in the “erotic vignette” style of filmmaking where performers engaged in dialogue before the sex scene.

Financing all his movies by himself, Howard started Command Cinema Classics around 1980 so he could personally oversee distribution and release his movies on videocassette. Both “Babylon Pink” and “Neon Lights” were shot on 35mm film.

“Fans have been writing in asking for these movies since the DVDs launched,” James Seibert, national director of business development for HotMovies.com, said. “Mr. Howard, one of the true greats of the 35mm days, gets the online exposure that only Hot Movies can deliver.”

HotMovies.com is actively trying to corner the market on Internet distribution of classic erotica. The company recently added more than 100 archival films from the “Historic Erotica” series distributed by Global Media.

Based on the success of his first two films on the VOD site, the long-retired Howard is considering releasing more of his Command Cinema catalog on the Internet.
