LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Public Health Department reported Tuesday evening that the number of possible syphilis cases among local talent has expanded.
Public Health Director Dr. Jonathan Fielding told XBIZ that there currently are "fewer than a dozen" local cases of adult entertainment performers infected with syphilis.
"The number [of infected] could increase depending on the number of partners those performers had with industry members or other partners," Fielding said.
"In Los Angeles County last year there were 813 cases of syphilis in the general population, so [fewer than a dozen] is not a surprise for the adult industry because usually those performers often have multiple sex partners," he said.
On Friday, the Los Angeles Public Health Department reported five active syphylis cases among porn performers.
