BUDAPEST — The adult production community in Budapest has extended its voluntary moratorium on shooting films through Sept. 3 due to the recent local syphilis outbreak among performers.
Porn performers in Budapest, one of the top porn-shooting capitals of Europe, have been under the moratorium for about three weeks.
Sixteen porn-performer syphilis cases were initially reported in the city, but those numbers have escalated. Cameron of of Sandy's Models told XBIZ that the number is now 20.
The moratorium was scheduled to end on Tuesday, but Cameron said that the soonest date local producers have agreed to resume shooting is Sept. 3.
In the U.S., meanwhile, an indefinite porn-production moratorium imposed by the Free Speech Coalition has been in place since Saturday due to its own cluster of syphilis cases. The Los Angeles County Health Department reported "fewer than a dozen" cases on Tuesday, but officials expect that number to rise.
