RedLightCenter Says It Expects to Open 500 Virtual Stores

SAN FRANCISCO — Utherverse has high expectations for its $10 million virtual community and game RedLightCenter.com.

The Los Angeles-based company announced Thursday at the Sex In Video Games Conference in San Francisco that it expects to open more than 500 adult entertainment stores on the site, with the first 50 stores going on sale June 14 at a promotional price of $50.

The company is betting the 3D site, where users can experience social interaction as well as “unrestricted” sex, will lead visitors to an array of stores that include adult products, including sex toys, condoms, adult videos and sexy lingerie.

RedLightCenter allows users to try out various sex toys or try on new outfits to see how they might look on their avatar before deciding whether to purchase.

Since its beta launch last month, Utherverse President Ray Schwartz told XBiz the site has swelled to 15,000 registered users. “We expect 1 million,” he said.

Utherverse’s CEO Brian Shuster, whose company’s product launch was the focus point of the conference, said the site could prove lucrative to virtual retailers.

“Like gaining a great domain name, it’s all about driving the most traffic,” he said.

The game has been in development for four years.
