The release marks the launch of a new line that will honor Holliday and came after careful consideration from VCA, which did a detailed study of its catalog.
“Jim had always felt that he was one of our most popular directors, even if others got more attention,” VCA’s director of production Wit Maverick told XBIZ. “We went through our entire catalog and found that his titles kept popping up as the biggest sellers. We agree with Jim; he hit something special in the marketplace.”
As for the idea that Holliday, who was known for such seemingly incongruous titles as “Cheerleader Nurses,” might not resonate with a younger generation, Maverick was unconcerned.
“Jim isn’t about a particular demographic,” Maverick said. “We think that he is someone who will ring a bell for everyone.”
While VCA plans to release a line of films in Holliday’s honor, the company has not set any particular contract director for the project.
“Nobody can replace Jim,” Maverick said. “We’re just looking for people who can continue his legacy and capture his spirit.”
As part of the ongoing tribute to Holliday, longtime friend and producer Bill Margold will portray the famous director’s brother in “Car Wash Angels.”
“I’m delighted that VCA is doing this,” Margold told XBIZ. “Jim’s films were like marshmallow rainbows. He was always able to get the most beautiful women in all of his projects because it was an honor to work with him.”
