LOS ANGELES — "Sexy Baby," a documentary on the effects the digital age and pornography are having on young girls, opens today in selected theaters in Los Angeles and New York. It debuts on VOD in November.
The documentary, produced and directed by contributing Esquire editor Jill Bauer and Miami Herald photographer Ronna Gradus, premiered at this year's Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
Profiled in the film are former porn star and current pole-dancing instructor Nikita Kash, a 12-year-old Facebook seductress and Lady Ga-Ga fan named Winnie and a 22-year-old kindergarten teacher named Laura, who is looking to upgrade to a "designer vagina" after being told by her boyfriend that hers was bigger than the porn stars he watches online.
"Porn isn't video anymore, it's on the Internet," Bauer told ABCNews.com. "It's one or two quick mouse taps away. And it's very different porn than it used to be. It's really, really angry and not for a woman's pleasure."
Despite her personal observations, Bauer says that the documentary, shot over a period of three years, isn't meant to pass judgement, but only trigger conversation.
"The adult entertainment world is infiltrating the mainstream," Kash says in the film. "I do blame that on the digital age. Porn is for adults, not for kids to learn about sex. It can't be their first experiences."
