Randy DeTroit Launches VOD Site

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Veteran amateur-line producer Randy DeTroit has relaunched DetroitsHarem.com with additional features such as video-on-demand content and pay-per-view distribution of “Porn Biz 101” classes.

For DeTroit, a 20-year veteran of the adult business, the porn industry is the only form of entertainment that breaks down the wall between producers and fans.

“I focus on amateurs and girl-next-door content,” DeTroit told XBIZ. “I don’t shoot stars, I make them. Most of the girls and guys who appear in my films are genuine first-timers out to have a little fun and make some money. I need to be turned on to the girl.”

Lines available through the site’s VOD service include “Hollywood Starlets,” “Harlem Harlots,” “Work-Out Relief” and “Serial Buttox Fondler.”

While the site caters to those who wish to remain squarely in the fan camp with VOD offerings and DVD/VHS sales of DeTroit’s titles, consumers looking to get into the business can learn from DeTroit’s experience.

DeTroit currently teaches a monthly course called “Porn Biz 101” from his home studio. The eight hour school covers the basics of porn production, from lighting and sound, to editing, camera work and some of the legal issues that face the industry.

“It’s for people who want to get into the business without actually being the man,” DeTroit said. “Once they take the course, they can join me in a kind of limited partnership by participating at any level they choose, from performer to director.”

Eventually, DeTroit plans to offer the course as a pay-per-view feature on his site.

In the near future, DeTroit plans to begin shooting in high-definition with a VD200 camera. But he has no plans of doing away entirely with his VX1000, which shoots in regular format.

“For now, we’ll do both,” DeTroit said. “It’s just a question of what the distribution channel needs. We’ll use hi-def, if the project demands it.”

DeTroit is in the process of looking for an affiliate program.
