Streamray Studios Fined $28,460 by Cal/OSHA

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Cal/OSHA has issued seven citations to Chatsworth-based adult film production company Streamray Studios Inc. for violating workplace safety regulations.

The violations, many involving the failure ensure to use of personal protective equipment such as condoms, amount to $28,460 in fines.

News of the fines came way of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, proponents of Measure B, the ordinance that makes condoms mandatory in Los Angeles county. The organization disseminated a press release detailing the Cal/OSHA fines on Business Wire.

The studio, which primarily produces movies for Penthouse, received seven citations, six of which were labeled "serious" during an investigation that was opened on Oct. 4.

According to the AHF, three of the seven violations found at the Dearborn Street studio dealt specifically with condom use and availability, as well as a lack of an injury and exposure control plans. Some of the violations involved electrical and equipment issues.

The inspection that led to the fines, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's website, was based on a "complaint" and unannounced.

Cal/OSHA officials, unavailable at post time, have yet to elaborate to XBIZ details of the inspection and fines.

The fines, which can be appealed, were decided on Jan. 10.
