Komar Co. Profiled in Baltimore's 'City Paper'

LOS ANGELES — One of the country's oldest adult industry distributors, Komar Co., landed in Baltimore's alternative weekly "City Paper" this week.

In a feature titled "Porn in the USA," writer Van Smith takes a historical angle to the piece, noting the free speech battles of the late Samuel Boltansky who ran the family owned business until his death in 2002. Currently, Morton Hyatt runs the company.

"The right to give the world its kink has long been exercised — and defended — from an old Baltimore warehouse" is the story's subhead.

Smith writes that Boltansky "ended up spending much of his career getting porn and sex toys out to the masses, despite government accusations of illegally distributing obscene material and having ties to organized crime.

"He did a pretty good job fighting back, winning acquittal in 1972 after a federal obscenity prosecution and mounting his own legal campaign trying to make sure prison inmates had proper access to pornography."

Komar's Mark Foreman told XBIZ he credits Boltansky for pioneering the adult industry.

“Komar’s ability to source and distribute XXX hardcore magazines, movies and sex toys to and from around the world exists because of the late, great Sam Boltansky," Foreman said. "For that, I am grateful to him as well as Larry Flynt, another giant advocate of freedom of speech, expression and civil liberties.”

Komar Co. distributes sex toys, novelties and DVDs and boasts an inventory of 13,000 adult toys and novelties with more than 50 years of experience supplying stores with adult product.
