New Twitter Update Warns Against Porn, Sensitive Content

CYBERSPACE — A new update for Twitter’s iOS and Android mobile app now warns users against nudity and other questionable material.

AllThingsD.com reported that if Twitter deems a tweet to contain images or video with “sensitive media” that includes “nudity, violence or medical procedures,” a warning message appears.

Users would then have to click through the censorship screen to see all of the media.

The message reads, “"The following media may contain sensitive material. Your Tweet media settings are configured to inform you when media may be sensitive."  Users can then click "View, or Always show me sensitive media."

Like most social media sites, it’s not clear as to how Twitter determines what material it finds objectionable. Techies suggest that they may be screening image metadata for porn-like keywords.

Twitter users can apply the new update by changing their settings and can also indicate their own sensitive media so they can warn others they’re tweeting.

The safety tweak was discovered by an AllThingsD user in a tweet stream photo of Rev. Al Sharpton and his fetching, albeit fully clothed, new girlfriend.
