Russia Bans Popular Adult Tube Site

MOSCOW — Russia has banned the popular adult tube site RedTube.com because it contained Japanese animated porn (hentai) that officials deemed “child pornography,” Digit.ru reported today.

RedTube, ranked the 96th most popular site by web traffic tracker Alexa, was blacklisted yesterday by Russian federal communications “experts.” Russian policy mandates that the offending material be removed in three days or Russian ISPs will block the site.

Last year, the Kremlin adopted a law that allows for extrajudicial blacklisting of websites if they are determined to contain child porn, or advocate drug use or suicide. Officials in June also decided that hentai has “no cultural value.”

Current blacklisted websites include a Russian-language Wikipedia page about marijuana smoking and certain YouTube videos that the communications officials claimed promoted suicide, according to Digit.ru.
