AOL Offers Publishers Free Video Search

DULLES, Va. — AOL has launched a developer program for its video search engine, another indication the company wants to weave integration of its own services into websites and blogs.

On Monday, AOL released a set of application program interfaces, known as APIs, for building video search-driven applications.

The interfaces offer a number of functions, including advanced keyword search, tagging, rating, RSS and support for sharing videos through blogs and social networks.

The APIs are available in both REST and AJAX formats. REST API delivers XML-formatted video search results that can be incorporated in web pages; AJAX API runs in the browser and lets client applications access video search results from JavaScript.

With the initiative, AOL has launched Video Search Developer Center for the YouTube-inspired interface.

AOL also announced Monday its AOL Director Account program, which targets online video creators and publishers, not just developers. With a Director Account, AOL-registered users can add content to AOL's video search engine index by submitting RSS feeds.
