The study, which was conducted by TNO research lab in the Netherlands, examined eight sex toys for phthalates, an oil product used around the world as a plasticizer.
Seven of the eight toys involved in the study tested positive for the plasticizer that Bart van Opzeeland of Greenpeace called “harmful in small amounts.”
Several news outlets, including the Register in England and Expatica in the Netherlands, reported that the Cyber Pussy was among the products that contained phthalates.
“Though there are adult products that contain phthalates, CyberSkin products are not among them,” Topco Director of Marketing Desiree Duffie said. “At Topco Sales, we’ve said all along that CyberSkin is phthalate free, however, despite that, and even despite the recent Greenpeace report, there are still news groups and misinformed individuals incorrectly stating that CyberSkin products contain phthalates.”
One possible reason for the confusion may be a typo in the report itself.
The report lists sample No. 52005103-01 as the sole product that does not contain phthalates. However, that number does not appear in the list of eight products tested.
The number on the list of eight that comes closest to matching the phthalate free entry is Topco’s Cyber Pussy, which TNO labs numbered as 52006103-01.
Both the phthalate free entry and Topco’s Cyber Pussy are the only product numbers ending in “01.”
XBIZ has attempted to contact TNO labs, twice by phone and twice by email, in an effort to clarify the presumed error in the report.
A copy of the full report can be found on the Greenpeace site.
