NEW YORK — Simon & Schuster launched "The Hot Bed" on Friday in a move to build a book category at the publishing house that is just inches away from porn.
The Hot Bed's editors have been tasked to capture an audience that might have bought "Fifty Shades of Grey," or a category that's been coined "New Adult."
The Hot Bed's content is being obtained and edited by an in-house Simon & Schuster team focused on romance and erotica.
The team, "four ladies from Simon & Schuster U.K.," is based in Britain but the Hot Bed is designed to reach readers in the U.S. as well.
The Hot Bed is being marketed across a number of different platforms — Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube.
"Whether you like your stories saucy or sweet, crushing on the charmers or the bad boys," The Hot Bed editors say on one platform. "It is The Hot Bed's duty to you to bring the very best of romance and New Adult from all your favorite authors."
Authors, so far, that have been announced include Jamie McGuire, Sylvia Day, Abbi Glines, Colleen Hoover, Alice Clayton and Christina Lauren.
