LA Weekly Spotlights Porn Stars' 'Geek Power'

LOS ANGELES — Porn stars who embrace social media and their inner “geekness” could just be the next major star the likes of Sasha Grey.

LA Weekly identified the top 10 performers who effectively use the Internet and all of its resources like Reddit, Twitter, Tumblr, podcasts and more to boost their brands to an ever-increasing tech-savvy world of mainstream fans and traditional porn hounds.

The article called stars like Asa Akira, Joanna Angel, Kayden Kross, Stoya, Jessie Andrews, James Deen and other lesser-known talent as “alarmingly witty humorists on Twitter and ferocious bloggers.”

Aside form their online work, these stars also frequent Comic-Con, speak on university panels and are in clubs DJing.

For example, the article points to performer Andrews who has more than than 150,000 loyal Twitter followers, and Akira’s brainiac Reddit AMA where she advocated for the Oxford comma — an often debated bit of punctuation.

Gay performer Colby Keller’s regular blog called “Big Shoe Diaries,” was also highlghted as often reviewing contemporary art shows. Keller's Twitter bio notes that he has an MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art and describes himself first and foremost as an artist and a blogger and third as a porn star.

The 10-1 ranking of potential stardom includes April O’Neil, April Flores, Colby Keller, Veruca James, Kayden Kross, Jessie Andrews, Joanna Angel, Asa Akira, Stoya and James Deen.
