LOS ANGELES — Showtime’s sex-positive freshman series “Masters of Sex” snagged a just-announced Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama.
The show follows the trials, tribulations and eventual triumph of sex researchers Virginia Johnson and her partner-in-sex-science William Masters, as they navigate the pre-progressive U.S landscape of the late-1950s, early-1960s.The scene is rife with skeptical colleagues who make for good comical fodder on the show.
Michael Sheen, who stars as Masters, also received a Golden Globe nom for Best Actor in a Drama. Lizzy Caplan co-stars as Johnson.
The series is based on the nonfiction book “Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson” by Thomas Maiers.
