LOS ANGELES — HBO’s reincarnated version of “Real Sex,” aptly dubbed “Sex//Now,” premieres tonight at 11 p.m.
The series recycles its predecessor’s style, showcasing two-three docs about some sexual zeitgeist-or-other, interdispersed with random interviews of average Joes/Janes on the street (hosted by LisaTV this time around).
But, in a fresh twist, “Sex//Now” focuses almost exclusively on the unchartered intersection of sex and technology, with an emphasis on areas of sexuality that have been revolutionized by the Internet.
“Patti Kaplans show ‘Real Sex’ was so vital in articulating sex culture for a mainstream audience,” “Sex//Now creator Chris Moukarbel said. “I really wanted to create a documentary series that could frame how much sex has changed since HBO stopped producing that show. Sex is the oldest expression of what it means to be human. It’s evolved so little in a millennia, but now we are seeing it shaped by technology like all aspect of our lives. I wanted to make a series that could frame how much sex culture is evolving.”
The pilot features an in-depth look at cam girls, boy and couples, and the now-defunct RealTouch device.
