LAS VEGAS — 4K Ultra HD content will be coming to Blu-ray discs, according to the format's association group.
The move to offer almost-lifelike content via hard disc comes at a time when a number of adult entertainment companies have decided to jump for the format and offer streaming 4K content.
Just last week Naughty America said that it would offer 4K content. The studio now joins other adult distributors offering or planning to offer 4K content, including DominicFord.com, Jay Allan Productions and Huccio.com.
The Blu-ray Disc Association said it would develop standards for 4K Blu-ray discs but it didn't offer a time table over when development would be completed.
The Blu-ray format has evolved over its eight years, spurring BD-Live, Blu-ray 3D, and soon Blu-ray 4K UHD.
Andy Parsons, a spokesman for BDA, said that "the effort to get this done is moving forward in earnest.”
“It’s too soon to know any of the details yet, as this all needs to be sorted out by the BDA technical groups," he told online news site TWICE. "But we are excited to have a decision in hand, and are looking forward to sharing more news about it once the specification process has been completed.
"As with the original specs, we need to make sure that we will deliver 4K UHD performance that’s second to none, as this is what everyone will expect from Blu-ray."
