Georgia May Pass 'Revenge Porn' Law

ATLANTA — The Georgia Senate, 51-0, has passed a bill criminalizing "revenge porn."

A Senate committee made some changes to the proposed legislation and it must now be reapproved in the House for final passage.

In February, the House voted 168-3 to pass HB 838, which would make posting revenge porn a misdemeanor and repeat offenders would face felony charges punishable by up to five years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

The bill would amend statutes relating to invasions of privacy, so as to prohibit the transmission of photography or video depicting nudity or sexually explicit conduct of an adult under certain circumstances.

Legislatures in Arizona, Washington, Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Rhode Island and Maryland have considered implementing similar laws. California and New Jersey already have enacted revenge porn laws.
